World's tallest woman dies

Sandy Allen, the worlds tallest woman, died today in a nursing home in Shelbyville, IN. She had reportedly been ill for several months.

Sandy stood 7-foot-7 1/4 and was listed by the Guinness World Records as the tallest living woman. Sandy had started out a normal 6-1/2 lb baby but started to grow and by the age of 10 was 6 foot 3 inches.

A tumor on Sandy's pituitary gland caused the extreme growth and was removed in 1977.
Funeral services will be at Town and Country Christian Church, 2133 S. Tucker Road, Shelbyville. Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, with services at 10 a.m. {source}
